06 predator 90 voltage regulator test?
#1
I have an 06 90 predator that I bought not running. Low compression no spark. I rebuilt the top end and installed a new stator. It ran fine for about ten minutes. I shut it off and a few minutes later I went to re start it and all it would do is crank over. I checked for spark, no spark. I then pulled the stator off and test it with my multi meter and it tested bad. So I'm thinking my regulator is bad. Any suggestions on how to test the regulator? Am I missing something frying the stator?

Could just be the stator itself. Where did you get it? I have an older model manual that shows resistance checks on the regulator in Chapter 5. Should be the same as these little 2 strokes didn't change that much, but found 2 pdf manuals for your year model. Hopefully you can check it out. I'd still suspect a bad stator, depending on where you got it.Not all aftermarket stators will work properly.polaris predator 50 predator 90 sportsman 90 service manual 2006.pdf polaris predator 50 predator 90 sportsman .pdf download - 2shared
If these sites don't pan out here's one for 5 bucks.Sportsman,Predator,Outlaw 90 the same.http://polaris-atv.brssm.com/2006-Po...ce-Manual.html
OR,my manual calls for white lead to yellow... 8-10k ohms
Yellow to green.. 33-35k ohms
Green to yellow.. 33-35 k ohms
If any are out of spec replace the regulator.

I'm confused opt....my regulator does not have any leads. It has a female connection with 4 spades coming from the unit. As for the stator it was a cheap one from eBay......I guess you get what you pay for.

Sorry! Not leads but the regulator connector end you're talking about. White ,Red Green,Yellow.Match the harness connector up to see which lead is which. If the regulator checks out,I'd either try to send the stator back(usually doesn't work) try to exchange for another or bite the bullet and get a good one from here.Ricky Stator

OK that makes sense now.....I actually emailed caltric today and they immediately shipped out a new stator. But I wanted to make sure the v r was working properly so I didn't burn the new on up.My wires are black, red, white, yellow with red stripe I don't have a green wire.

That's the difference between my old 2002 manual and your 2006 model. Wiring colors did changed some. That's why I gave a couple links to later model manuals. Hope the replacement stator stays lit for you. If it doesn't you know where to get one that will. Never had any real problems with Ricky parts.

Thanks a lot OPT, your knowledge is invaluable. It's great that you share it with complete strangers on the w.w.w.
