Polaris Scramlber 400 Killswitch??
#1
I am new to the forum. I have a 1999 Polaris Scrambler 400 4x4. I love the machine. I started to have issues with the carb, the needle was not closing and letting fuel to overflow out of the carb. I rebuilt the carb, and it ran really good. Only problem was it bogging. You hit the throttle, and had no pickup. It did not necesarily stall, but bogs, especially up hill. I brought it to dealer and they diagonosed it as the stator? So I took it home and started to dig into it. I unplugged this black wire that looked to be coming from the handlebars. It has 2 black wires coming from handlebar area, that go into a connector, and then goes down to one single black wire that goes down to coil. I unplugged it and the quad ran great. I think it has to do with the rev limiter, because it ran at some pretty high rpms. I did not rail on it at all, just putted around the yard quickly. One more thing, when I unplugged the wire, the quad could not shut off with the killswitch. I had to plug the wire back in to get it to shut off. Where is the rev limiter unit located? Is it in the ETC box? Also should I just throw a killswitch in it at the same time?

If you can't kill it you probably unplugged the black kill circuit wire. Sounds like either the left control switch emergency on/off switch could be the problem or just pull the black wire only from the cdi module under the front panel and see if it does the same thing. Runs good, but can't kill. The black (kill) wire from the cdi can short out same as the control switch. Plus plug all wires back in,then pull only the black wire from the reverse limiter. This eliminates having to push the over ride button, plus defeats this module. If it runs ok,then leave this wire unplugged. Common problem on reverse limiter modules on failing.
