[QUOTE=old polaris tech;3251252] and also the simple fact its 20 years old.I don't run as good as I did 20 years ago to say the least either.

Now OPT, that's a perfect quote!!! I say it a bit different, every 10 years my brain tells me to slow down 5 MPH, and being in the 50's age group, it's hard to see 50MPH on anything ridden in the dirt these days, I'm sure when 60 hits, my boys might take away my dirt toys for good, as their wait time will out weigh ride time!!!

Brand new out of the crate with stock tires the 400 2x4 would hit right at 65 on a straight road we had by the side of the shop. 4x4 was a tad slower because of the extra weight
Maybe a 400 Sport or 400 Scrambler with 22"/23" tires but a 400 Sportsman utility with 25" tires?
I rode with a 400 Xplorer pretty well the same as a 400 Sportsman and it was slower then my 500 on the top end. Unless it was not running right.

My friends 700 Sportsman is lucky to hit 65.

Mix screw is turned out right at 1.5 turns like the manual says. Idle screw is turned out quite a ways.

Just order the motor mount from ebay,Cycle Parts Warehouse or a local dealer would usually have them in stock if you're close to one. Idle screw is just as it's described, just turn in or out until you have a steady idle, but with the broken mount it's going to vibrate any way.

So I took the Polaris down the road tonight. Ended up blowing the front right tire. As I slowed down I noticed the bike losing power. It died. Trailered it home and now it won't start. Any ideas other than checking for spark or should I start there. I did use the pull rope for the hell of it and noticed it seems tougher to pull but the electric start spins right up.

Pulled everything off, pulled the plug, put my finger over the hole, and nothing. Wouldn't even blow my finger off. Connected the compression tester and absolutely nothing registers. Guy I bought it from said it could possibly be reeds. Is that a possibility or am I rebuilding the top end?
