Default 02 scram500 fan ques

My fan comes on, red light doesnt come on and doesnt boil out. How long should the an stay on for when its sitting at idle for say 20 mins. Im used to cars fans go on and off but not sure about atvs. Should the fan go off or does it need driving air flow thru rad to help cool it down also. I dont take it on long trips but once or twice a year and im coming up it. Do you think there is a problem or is that normal. It about 85 degrees out now. Thnx for any help.

Nothing written in stone as to how long a fan stays on. Depends on temperature, altitude, how clean the radiator is,how many amps the fan motor is drawing, etc.Plus one machines sensor may kick the fan on and off a tad quicker than an identical machine sitting right next to it. Yes the fan will run longer with no constant cooler air going through the radiator. I've had some machines that the fan hardly kicked off when just setting at an idle. The main thing is that you don't have a hot light come on or coolant boiling over. Sensors are "set" to where they are supposed to kick the fan on at around 185 degrees and kick off at 165 degrees or so.

A lot of people don't like idiot lights either. Some like an analog gauge that they can see what the water temp is,plus there are engine oil temp gauges, belt temperature gauges, etc. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ATV-Temperature-Gauge-YFZ450-KFX450-Raptor-660-700-YFZ450R-Red-Anodized-/370958318869?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item565ed6bd15&vxp=mtr Polaris ATV Temp Gauge Kit Coolant Switch Illuminated System Quad

Haven't ever seen one come into the shop that had one,but yes it's logical it goes into the upper return hose. You might check any reviews on products like this or just do a google search. Plus maybe some on the forum have used them and can give you their opinion.

If it was over heating I guarantee you it would boil over out of the overflow bottle. That's the temperature gauge I go by.

Who lets their machine sit and idle for 20 minutes? If you're sitting that long, most people just shut it off. Unless it won't start again, it is a Polaris after all lol.
