I was wondering what the top speed of the Scrambler was and if it has on demand 4x4 so if you reply it would be nice. Thanks

In stock form, top is around 55-60. On demand 4x4 is the push of a button away, and does not affect the top speed.

I would have to agree that mine was around 65 stock. Of course, they will vary a little here and there due to tuning and rider weight, etc.

I weigh 230, and had my 400 4x4 to 102kph (63.37mph) on a hand held GPS (no I wasn't holding it in my hand!).

I have HPD trail pipe, muffler, roller clutch, K&N, Wiseco etc. Now with airbox mods and a few other bits, i think I have added about another 10kph (6mph) to the top.

Don't believe the speedo readings as they are very in accurate, and like car speedos, the manafactuers calibrate them to over read!

AKScrambler~
Sorry, but your machine will not hit 65 mph in stock form. Guaranteed. The Problem here is the 95-97 Scramblers came stock with a 38 tooth rear sprocket, while the 98-01 Scramblers(4x4) have a 36 tooth sprocket. My 96 Scrambler only managed 56.4 mph in a quarter mile on ice with studded stock tires. A lot of people THINK their Scramblers can go 65-70, but I'm going to agree with the $3000 radar gun I was clocked by and the $2500 radar gun the magazines use. Best chance of topping out above 65 would be on a 96-98 Sport or on a 95-98 Explorer 400. Both have the tallest gearing on any Polaris. BTW, I weigh 170 so I am probably one of the lighter Scrambler riders on this forum.

Is your machine stock? To get 65 out of your machine, you would likely have to change sprockets and add some more power. Here's an idea of how accurate the Polaris Speedometers are: When I was clocked at 56.4 mph, my speedo(reads to 60) was past 60 and hitting the plastic on its way down! I'm guessing it reads about 5-6 mph fast on the top end. And you can assume yours will give the same results if you're ever clocked by a radar gun. Take a reality check and accept the fact you will not hit 65 on a stock Polaris!

According to a very good freind that works at polaris R&D dept a stock 400 scram should be between 65 to 72 If setup properly. Take it or leave it He has no reason to lie. So my 99 scram is not setup properly Yet He He. But soon to be.

I really do not want to get envovled here but I always thought that less teeth on the back was more top end ?
Larger front smaller back = top speed
Smaller front bigger back = more power (Tourque)

Maybe I am wrong but this has always been my understanding I mean this only applies to a certian degree for top speed to because changing to much and you will not have enough power to get to top speed.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
