Scrambler

MilleniumScr500~
You are 100% correct with your thoughts on sprockets. Dropping a couple teeth on the rear sprocket will add top end, but drop too many teeth, and you will loose top end due to lack of power.
Dazed~
How do you properly set up a STOCK 400 Scrambler to get around 70 mph out of it? I would like to know about this setup if it could get me almost 15 more mph on the top end! I truly think your "very good friend" is pulling your leg. If I worked for Polaris, I definitely would exaggerate about top speed. If he can sell an ATV by exaggerating the facts, more power to him!

WIscrambler i too would agree with a 3000 dollar radar gun but if you were on ice wouldn't the loss of traction slow you down a bit. Now kiwi is the only one here i trust because he is the only one using accurate source to determine speed AND on a surface that actually provides traction. The rest of you are trusting speedometers, drag racing on ice or trusting the cousin of a friend who overheard a guy say he once read it would do.... Thanks kiwi for reliable info. Just thought i would add my 2cents.

Thanks psychorider
I was on the road when I did the speed run. The hard surface probally slowed me a bit I think as I have set up a slight toe out to make streaing crisper. Also if I droped a main jet size and ran a bit lean could squeeze a bit out of it. Had I removed the airbox lid I might have got a bit more from it.
My scrambler is a 96 400 4x4 with stock gearing and tire sizes (holeshots)
I hope to have another go this weekend with my new mods (only way to tell if your money has been worth it), and hope to beat a Rapture as well who had about 5kph on me last time.

Go take a look at my other 260 posts and see if I have ever bashed a Polaris. I am speaking from what I have found with my experiences. When I did my runs on the ice, I was jetted richer than I had to be. The week earlier, it was about 5-10 below zero, so I had to rejet for that very cold weather. Had I rejetted for the drag run(about 25 degrees warmer), I probably could have seen about 4mph faster from my machine.
Psychorider~
Riding on ice does not necessarily mean you will be at a loss of traction. I had roughly 180 sheet metal screws in EACH of my rear tires. Sure, I did spin for the first 100 feet, but after that it would hook up and go like on pavement.
