it was the very outside right
right at the start of the splines in the wheel hub!
the left side has a tubue all the way to the hub but the right is exposed from the rearend to the hub!

25x12.5x10 bearclaws!
they are the same height as stock.
it looks as if the axle twisted slightly before it broke!

MNXPLORER's buddy was one of our trial guides on the ride yesterday. He had a loner SP500 instead. I had heard that the axle breakage was due to the design of the splined area and that there was no chamfer down to the end by the splines causing a week spot that has been prone to breakage. Haven't looked at one of the axles to see for sure. I think Dura Blue may have an aftermarket axle that would be a lot stronger.

The axle breakage is a common thing down here. One thing that we have found to help is to torque the hubs to 100 ft lbs and check them frequently. Durablue does make a rear axle for the shaft drive bikes. It is stronger but it breaks on the left side. When it breaks it screws up the disk, caliper and axle tube. I have broken two Durablue axles and there lifetime warranty is a joke. Everybody that I know that had a Durablue broke it and replaced it with a stock axle.

My 99 Model broke two axles and bent the third one...
First one was with 4 months on the bike, second one was with a year on the bike, and the bend was due to a wreck.
First time was running 27" Blackwater XT's, second time was Tri-Claw Magnums.... both times it broke, it busted just as others have said... Right side where the hub splines end. It s a common problem, and it is a manufacturing defect. The down side is that there are no replacements that are any better. I don't have personal experience with Dura Blue on the Magnum, but I fought with them on an axle on a Warrior, 300EX, and Blaster....
As others have said, tighten the hub nuts "TIGHT!!
Godd Luck
