Good-Bye Polaris

I know where your comin' from Kevin. When I get the money I am getting a Raptor for myself and the wife. We will swap quads on rides between the Yamaha and the Scrambler. She is not a very super-agressive rider so I think she will prefer the Scrambler. The Scrambler goes great everywhere and in most any situation but I would like to try a smaller, lighter high performance quad next.
I would not have said this last year but the way I see it is that on (my) Polaris "bigger" things tend to break. My buddy's Banshee always has something wrong with it that could have been avoided by maintenance or less agressive riding...but I have this gut feeling deep down that my Scrambler will break in half if ridden as agressively as his.
I will one day have a quad for every type of riding.
So Kevin, we might see you aboard a new ride at Silver Lake?!?!

I think you guys are being a little rough on kevin, I mean you guys are making it seem like 2 1/2 feet is huge but that is simple nothing, not to bash you polaris guys but I have taken my grizzly off of some big jumps and have jumped it 4 feet up in the air and over 13 feet in distance and it hasn't broke anything so I suspect the culprit of the tranny breakin to be the concentric drive system.
Also I think that polaris should voluntarily fix your machine because that shouldn't have happened twice to you, man that sucks I feel sorry for yoy man.

Polaris should do something about this. You see this same complaint around about the trans housing breaking.
It is ironic that the suspension can travel to the point at which the other end of the chain on the transmission is the stop.
I never jump, so I should be fine. I will be sure to keep my chain a bit on the loose side.

Guys,
All in all, Polaris is pretty good about covering defects when a machine is just out of warranty. DONT PUSH BOMBARDIER, if it's 1 day out of warranty, tough luck!
Kevin,
You need to have a little faith, don't be so flimsy. And you better speak just as loudly about a good ending to this problem as you have about your fears (assuming you get a good result which I think you will.) You seem to give up before you even talked to anyone.
Just realize that a 4X4 quad is never going to be a true sport machine. One of the others(DS, Raptor) might be better for your type of riding as long as your not concerned with mudholes and extremely difficult terrain. Thats really what the 4X4 is good at not jumping or racing.
It's funny how when theres a new big, bad machine out on the market everybody's ready to get rid of their old "piece of junk!"

kevin,
ihave had really good luck with my dealer taking care of craftmanship defects out of warranty.
i ride a 99 exp and have been helped with speedo problems and a water intrusion problem, both out of warranty. have faith in your dealer, they will make the right choice if they value you as a customer. if not, i would also find a new franchise, or at least a new dealer.
good luck !

I have jumped mine several times from higher than "recommended" heights for a 4x4 with only one problem. I cracked the swing arm, it was only welded on 3 of the 4 sides where the axle straps are welded on. Since the fix which was in 99 I`ve had no other problems.
The reason I mention this is I`m thinking (which could be dangerous) is that these transmission, chain and sprocket problems are a design (quality) problem on 99 and newer Scrams with the increased rear wheel travel (10.5" vs 8.5").
I`ve seen all these posts the past year or so about breakage on 99, 00 & 01 Scram but never a 98. I keep waiting for mine to break someday but I still ride it just as hard.
Just my opinion on the whole Scramblers junk transmission drama going on here.
Good Luck !!!

There does seem to be a problem with the tranny case and jumping. maybe Polaris doesn't design them with jumping in mind? either way they should take care of it. I have jumped my Sportsman with 2 people on it several time at least 2-3 feet in the air, it lands pillow soft and keeps on going.

I think the concentric drive thing works to a certain degree but when pushed it cannot keep up
just push down really fast on the back end while watching the chain and you can see it tighten then loosen.
Now I have heard of people putting a good roller spring loaded chain tensioner on there scramblers and slacking off the chain to about 1 1/2 to 2 inch slack and the spring loaded chain tensioner keeps it tight and when jumped it keeps the concentric drive from being overwhelmed buy the sudden compression of the suspension and you have that 1 1/2 to 2 inch of travel for concentric to catch up.
This is my opinion on the subject and I am getting one myself just thought I would let you know.
Good Luck
