I'll be picking on up as soon as the shops re-open after all this snow.

I tested the coil and here is my readings: Test leads to top of coil pack gives 1.5(on setting 200) and top of coil and to spark plug boot gives 11.59 (on setting 20k). Does that sound to be in spec for a good coil pack?

Also, I'm guessing there is no way to test a cdi box. I ordered this one off ebay, and I suspect it to be a bad unit. I would like to be sure be for returning it. (i found nothing in the service manual on testing it, unless i over looked it).

No way to test the cdi. Coil secondary doesn't sound right, but get the specs from the correct manual.Plus remove the plug cap and check it. Should be around 5k ohms.

On the CDI plug, the red and blue wire is to the pulse coil correct? If so, i get a reading of .01 meaning the pulse coil would be bad. I could be wrong on this.

Most pick up(pulse) coil wires from the stator to the cdi are white and white/red. Best again to just get the cheap manual and the schematic shows the correct wiring to each component and the resistance specs.

Gas charged sealed shock. Can't be rebuilt. You can get one here or check ebay on part # 7041960 if one shows up at a reasonable price. Plus there may be other aftermarket ones available that will work, haven't checked.Dirt Cheap Yamaha & Polaris OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Thanks for the info, and thanks for hanging in there with my lack of understanding of subject matter on this 4 wheeler.

One questions about this pic above, is that yellow/brown looking glue something the factory added to hold the wires? Just want to make sure its nothing to worry about.

Thanks

The gooey looking stuff is an epoxy plastic type resin used to protect the coils. Hope you checked the resistance correct on the stator and that a new one solves the problem. Be sure to seal the recoil housing and also around the rope handle with rtv sealant to help keep moisture out.

I ordered a new coil pack not stator. The stator showed within spec, however the coil pack itself tested bad with the new meter.

I cant seal the pull rope just yet, but it actually seals tight. When the starter is fixed i will do this, i can tell moister was an issue already. The starter is bad , having a local shop rebuild it.

New coil had no effect, still no spark. Starting to think this thing is not worth the effort, but being i bought i used CDI who knows.
