96 Polaris Xplorer 400 up and running
#1
I picked up my cylinder, piston and head up from the machine shop earlier this week and put my Xplorer together today. Checked and rechecked everything as I put it together. Had the rings gapped by the machine shop, filled the counter balancer oil, filled up the coolant and bled the system with the bleeder on the head. Premixed my first tank of fuel at 40:1 and fired her up. She popped right off and ran pretty good, actually, really good. I let it warm up, then took it for a ride around my shop and down the road, varying the speed as I drove. Ran really strong and didnt overheat. Rode for about 20 minutes to make sure it kept running and parked it. Came back an our later and checked for leaks but didnt find any. Thanks for the help throughout this OPT!
Now on to my next question. The factory piston had round ports. The Wiseco piston has oblong ports that are larger. Do I need to re-jet my carb from the factory settings for the round ports? I plan on adjusting the carb more as I break the engine in and if I got to changes some stuff, I might as well do it now.
Other than the carb, I have to adjust my chains before I get into full riding season and since I put all new inner and outer tie rods on this machine, I am going to attempt to align the front wheels better according to the manual.
Thanks for the help!

Not usually necessary to rejet. Just depends on temp and altitude.Break it in,take it for a good higher speed run, then kill it. Check the color of the plug. Should be a light to medium tan color.Glad it went back together ok..
