02 Sportsman 500 HO Problem Starting
#11
Glad you got her up and running. On old starters I gave up trying to rebuild or cleaning any over 5-6 years old or more. Brush kits with all parts are available for about 20 bucks,BUT people forget about the armature itself that really needs to be turned and cleaned up,plus you still have the old worn splines that engage the bendix. I posted before on having a generator shop rebuild old starters for us to sell cheap for awhile, but most never held up past 6 months. Just not worth the trouble anymore with all the cheap prices on new starters now.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Starter-KIT-POLARIS-ATV-325-335-425-500-Sportsman-HD-/230597088301?hash=item35b0a8542d&vxp=mtr

I think I paid $50 for a new starter and the Bendix. if I only wanted the starter it was like $39 and change. so it was well worth the money and I will take the old stuff added to the scrap metal pile.

OTP, I'm sorry I didn't post sooner as work and family has pulled me away for a bit. I installed the new pull starter, the bendix & starter. Everything works great and the starter sounds like one of my old high torque Tilton starters from years passed in my hot rod days. It runs GREAT! I have the solenoid and trigger coil on the shelf in case it gives me a problem in the future. Thanks for the help and stay safe! I am happy to say its fixed but don't think I can get out to use it for a while. Work and family is tearing me away with more important things right now.
