Default Is an 87 Trail Boss 250 worth buying at this point

I am very new to ATV's and looking for something that might be a good startup machine for my son who wants to so some easy riding in the summer, and plowing in the winter. We have seen a 87 Trail Boss 250 with a plow for sale and wondering if it is worth even looking at something this old. The price seems ok, I would like to talk him down some as the starter doesn't work and you have to pull start it. He is asking 1200. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Nada shows 800 bucks if it's in EXCELLENT condition which is hard to find for a 28 year old machine. Around $650 if in good condition.Plus whatever the plow is worth. Think I'd be looking for a little newer machine if you can't get it cheaper than what he's asking.

If you can get it cheap, you don't really have a whole lot to lose. The plow is probably worth $200. Around $800 including the plow sounds reasonable. The older 2 strokes require more maintence though. I bought a Scrambler 400 4x4 about 3 years ago for $800, only thing it needed at the time was a new starter, had to pull start it just like this one. I had it about 3 months and then I lost the whole bottom end, the rod actually punched a whole in the block and I ended up selling it for parts, would have cost more than it was worth to fix it. I'll never buy another 2 stroke again.
