Default 330 makes loud knocking noise

my buddy got a used 03 magnum 330, it has alot of valve noise, adj. valves and still has alot of motor noise, noticed the oil line to the cooler is leaking and does not have a crimped on line on the upper oil line like the lower, book shows both have crimped lines, so the other day the line came off and they drove it for a mile or so, now when u rev it up it sound like theres someone inside the with a hammer tring to beat his way out. what do u think, bad motor, needs complete overhaul, any good motor rebuilders out there or trash.

Doesn't sound good. Had a couple of the early 325s blow off oil lines and before owners noticed rod bearings and cranks were eaten up.Polaris updated kits went to the screw type connections with the crimped lines and really didn't have any problems after that, but anythings posible even with the updated system. If it's gotten low on oil and knocking, first thing that comes to mind is the rod bearings.Item #14. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Just pull the recoil, flywheel and stator(let stator stay on the right floor board) and engine comes out the left side. A little easier if you remove the breather cover, will have more wiggle room to tilt out.Item #6. Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Sounds like part of the noise is a lower type repetitive sound like a belt slapping over and over against the cover. May or may not be but no harm checking. The clutch can be removed to further isolate any problem. Plus check that the cam chain is tight and valve clearance is ok.
