Just a quick question about plugs for my 96 Xplorer 400 and my 93 350L. Both take the same plug and I'm going to order some more for them but when I went on my computer this morning, it have me 4 different options for ngk plugs. I always order the ngk 5422 but there is another one with a solid tip, which I don't think gets used on these machines if they have the stock wire and boot. The other two were iridiums. About twice the cost but I never heard of iridiums used in older machines. I know of the benefits of them in newer cars with stronger ignition, but do they even work well in the older machines?

Don't waste you $ on iridiums for older model machines. I learned that lesson on my old Honda as all they will do is foul out.They work great on newer dci ignitions,but not on the old magneto triggered systems. All the 350 and 400 machines use the 5422 which is a plain old BR8ES. On any old two stroke or 4 stroke for that matter I'd always carry a spare plug.

 

I have iridium plugs in my bike, but on all my quads I just went with the stock replacement.

I did throw money at one of them one time. Got a splitfire plug. Couldn't tell a bit of difference in it.

The iridium plug would work, but IMO, it's not worth the price on an older stock machine.

Kinda what I thought about the iridium's also. I was just getting ready for the winter season of snow plowing and decided to put a fresh set of plugs in and get a spare. My plugs burn pretty clean and I have never fouled any out, but I always figure to better be safe than sorry. I have never tried any other plug than NGK's in my two stroke polaris's but I see there are more options available with Champions and Denso plugs listed.

Stick with NGK.. Denso has never been as good and leave the Champions for lawnmowers and weed eaters. They're great for that.

 

I am totally with opt on the plugs. I have ran Champion in my 2 strokes in a pinch, but they never perform as well or last as long as NGK. BR8ES is a common plug, a lot of auto parts stores even carry it.
