2003 Sportsman 500ho sputtering
Hello I recently bought a neglected 500ho sportsman. I rode the quad a few hours then battery died. I replaced battery and quad started running rough. I went through carburetor, looked ok except pilot jet was plugged. Quad ran ok for awhile then started overheating. I checked all the bag relays for power and cleaned a bunch of electrical connections. I found the fan was seized up so I replaced that. I haven't run the quad much because now it's sputtering. Sometimes if I hook up the wire that bypasses kill switch it will die. So I am trying to diagnose the sputtering as electrical or carb. I think maybe electrical cause when I plug the wire in sometimes the quad shuts right off. I also have no speedometer or lights on my dash pod. I messed around with air fuel screw when I did carb but thought I put it back where it was. Is this screw accessible with carb on engine?

If you have a small screw driver or a carb tool you can adjust the idle mixture screw.Motion Pro Motorcycle Carburetor Pilot Screw Adjusting Tool Carb Mixture 08 0119 | eBay Sounds like you need a manual in the worst way. Here's one for 5 bucks that can save you some grief.2003 Polaris Sportsman 500 Service Manual PDF Download

Thanks for the link for the manual. That will be a big help. I'm gonna try to reach in with a screwdriver and adjust carb. Also checking the hot light switch in head to see if that's functioning. Trying to diagnose whats up with the dead speedo. Seems like a common issue with these quads.
