Default strange problem

Just took the 4weeler for a ride [99scrambler500], when I backed it out of the garage the left front wheel was dragging real bad, drives fine in forward, I just got the 4wd working [I think] and just replaced both front boots, it looks okay, I must have gotten something wrong on assembly. Any ideas???

if u replaced the boots, make sure the boot clamp(s) arent getting hung up..take a good look at ur left front clamp and make sure you torqued everything properly...plus fluid and maybe an armature plate... my 2 cents

Hub nuts torqued properly? Did you replace the armature plates when you had the hubs apart? Possible one might be magnetized locking in the awd.

Not the boot clamp, I'll check the torque again this weekend, would the armature plate only grab in reverse, I didn't change them when I had the axles out, wish I hadda.

Cheap as they are always best to replace the armature plates whenever you tear the hubs down. They have constant wear pressure on them even if not in awd mode. Over time they can wear down from riding against the coil sleeve and can magnetize or warp and cause a hub to lock up even if not in 4 wheel drive.Usually you can unlock them by going forward or reverse to unlock and they'll be ok,but mainly a nuisance especially when the hub fluid is cold. They can lock up in forward or reverse.Hopefully backing off the hub nut, then torque the nut to 12 foot pounds may solve the problem. If it still locks up change both plates out as usually the other side will do the same thing later on.

Damn, human error, in my haste putting boots back on I didn't have the arm. plate lined up good. New ones on the way, both. I think this time I'll put a dab of grease on it to hold it in place when I change it.

If you reach behind the strut and hold the cv joint firmly when you replace the hilliard, armature plate, hub and then snug the hub nut by hand, the plate tabs will stay locked into the hiliard slots with no danger of getting out of alignment. I had to learn that the hard way myself.
