Alright. Thank you.
I am looking to purchase this. Clickable link: !!!!!2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4!!!!!
I am aware of the speedo and the AWD issue, but the seller claims the AWD is still working. I haven't seen the ATV in person yet, but driving the two hours to see it tomorrow. Any insight that if the speedo stops working the AWD does also?

The 2000 wasn't bad but the 2001 was better. I may be wrong but I think 2000 was the last year they made a 500 that wasn't an H.O. and the non-H.O.s had cam problems some years. There were some other changes for 2001 but I can't remember what they all were. The front end had 1.5" more travel and I think that's the year they made the steering easier too. I wish I could remember this stuff better. I had Goodyear Mud Runners and they're great tires but tend to tear up the ground. You wouldn't want to use them in the yard.

As jumbofrank said the 2001 was the first year of the Sportsman HO with the improved cam and larger carb, but I wouldn't let that stop me if the machine is clean as the pics show it to be. Condition means more than year model and 3500 miles on a 15 year old machine isn't bad,but price is a little high according to NADA and Kelly Blue Book.2000 Polaris Sportsman 500 Prices and Values - NADAguides Kelley Blue Book But looks like new tires and rims along with the winch and heavy bumper. Look at the price guides, look at the machine and see what price he might be willing to let it go for if it's what you want. Plus speedo not working could could be as simple as needing a new hall effect sensor on the front caliper caliper if it isn't registering speed and hrs. Even if the speedo is dead, several people have been able to repair theirs. Again use common sense. If you have doubts walk away as there are plenty more out there stuck in sheds and garages that have barely been used.
