Front Drive Clutch Stuck
#1
I'm finally putting my 2000 Scrambler back together after being apart for a few years. I got it back together and drove around a bit without the clutch cover just to check things out and noticed the front drive clutch did not slide back open like it should have. It's depressed a little more than an inch and cannot get it to open back up. I've even taken it off and it didn't open up. It worked fine when I pulled it off a few years ago and still looks new. When I was testing it out it seemed to drive around fine, shouldn't it have opened back up when I put it in neutral? I really haven't messed with these much but every time I've ever seen one it's been fully opened up.

While running even in neutral some clutches will have a little inertia that keeps them closed a tad. If it still sticks when the engine is off, most times it's either a little corrosion on the shaft or the bushings are worn causing the clutch to stick. You can try to clean the clutch up first with compressed air to get rid of any belt dust that may be causing it to stick, also with contact cleaner and some PB Blaster,WD40. If this doesn't help, the clutch needs to be split and repairs made. Might as well check/replace the clutch buttons and weights since you're already there. #3 and 12 are the bushings.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse You have to have the clutch puller and spider tool to split the clutch or if you can pull the clutch, drop it off to have it checked out.
