Default Scrambler 50 throttle problem

I bought this for my kids.
as soon as you hit the throttle (no matter how far the stop screw is in ) it pretty much goes full speed. I can't figure it out? . It's just so hard to teach a kid to ride when the quad only goes one speed which is to fast. any help would greatly be appreciated.

Sounds like you need to check the throttle cable for binding or in the carb itself for throttle slide sticking.

thanks for your reply. Do you think the problem is in the carburetor ? I can not much about this particular atv but had my suspicions about the cdi box . I must have a scrambler of model year 01 or 02 because there are no connections for the jumper cable. dare to buy a new carburetor on ebay for example??

Sounds like what a cable or carb could do. You may not have to get a new carb, but if needed plenty of people have bought the cheap Chinese knock off carbs on ebay. Just check that jetting is the same or swap out the main and pilot jet from your carb. Plus in some cases if a crank seal was leaking engines could rev up,but if it at least idles ok,wouldn't think it would be a seal problem.Carburetor ATV Polaris Scrambler Carburetor 50cc 90cc 2 Stroke Carburetor Carb | eBay

Only if a carb is really needed and you'd rather not spend $325 bucks for a new Mikuni carb, even at discounted prices here. Item#16.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse

Carb is perhaps not my strongest side , but I 'll have to teach me. What should I consider when I pick it away from engine and what should I look for when have dismantled it? Again , many thanks for your quick response

Couple videos on you tube that can help.
Plus here's a generic video on small two stroke carb adjustments.
