Default 1999 sportman 500 4x4 fuel cap

i want to purchase a fuel gage fuel cap. there are several on ebay, however since this model did not come with one it does not list it as compatible. it does list 1999 diesal model, and 1993 thru 1997 sportsman. does any one know if this will work with mine.. thanks in advance.

Same fuel tank basically on the diesel as the gas models for that year. Should be ok.

I did this on my 94 300. My tired old eyes just couldn't see the gas level in that little slit in the plastics. I measured the distance of the clearance in the tank for the gauge float and took a chance that the cap threads where the same.

Found a listing on ebay for "POLARIS RANGER 8" FUEL TANK GAS CAP WITH BUILT IN GAUGE, 2X4,4X4,6X6, 1240119" that said "This cap is 7 1/2" from the bottom of the black cap to the bottom of the float rails." This was for years 2004 to 2014.

This worked perfect with no modification - I was surprised how well it fit. Maybe now I won't run out of gas again and have to depend on reserve to get me back...

Default fuel gauge

first thanks for the replies. I took measurement of the depth of the tank, asked the seller on ebay to measure the float rod and ordered a fuel gauge cap that would come from a 1999 sportsman 500 diesal along with various other models.. i was a little nervous to order because the length was borderline on working according to our measurements. got the cap yesterday and it fits perfect. even though this was not made for this model, the fuel reading may not be perfect but it is very close. now at a glance i can know when i am getting low on fuel. I hope this info helps out some one else that has wanted to get a fuel gage but was afraid it would not work. two people on another forum told me that it would not work.... a special thanks to old polaris tech.

I lost my gas cap on my 500H.O and a old 1987 250 Ski-Doo Trundra gas cap fit. LOL
