I hope I didn't give the wrong impression in my previous message by bringing up some problems with certain Polaris ATV's. I personally own a 1990 Indy 400 sled with nearly 6,000 miles and it has been flawless. Plus the ride is great and I get compliments on the looks.

I would just like some input on whether the Magnum & Sportsman perform as well my sled has. Routine greasing and oil changes do not bother me--starters, bearings, cv joints/boots, and other $150+ repairs do!

By the way, I plan on using the machine for hunting, snow plowing, and pulling a small boat through rough trails to those 'hidden' fishing spots in the MN woods.

Thanks again.

I also own a Polaris snowmobile. Indy 500 instead of the 400, I also have close to 6,000 miles on mine with only minor problems. I have many friends that own both Polaris quads and snowmobiles. Almost Every one of them complains about the reliability of the quads. They complain the most about the Sportsman. They tell me the reliability on the quads doesn't even come close to reliability of the sleds. I have ridden Hondas in the past and have switched over to a Arctic Cat ATV. I didn't expect the reliability of the AC to be as good as my Honda 300, but it turned out to be better. (A nice surprise) My friends are also starting to look at the Arctic Cats. As you can see I am not brand loyal, but it is nice if you can stay with a Minnesota company like Polaris or Arctic Cat.

As a person who works on 4wheeler I can tell you, The polaris sportsman models have been rather hit and miss as far as the quality seems they are either great or have trouble esspecially on some of the early models.BUT...... Do not judge the whole lineup because of the problems of one model . The others esspecially the Magnums appear to be as good or in some cases better than competing models one thing you may notice in these post is that no one has registered a single complaint about the magnums here. I personally believe them to be the most solid machine that Polaris has built to date. I have owned Polaris machines since 1994 and they have expiereinced some growing pains but I think they have finally gotten a hold of the quality control issue with the introduction of the Magnum lineup one close inspection of this machine will show you this . It is a well built 4 wheeler there is a great testamony to the Magnums on a competing forum but I don,t think I can list it here without getting deleted if you would like to know where to find it E-mail me at SGowdy@ftc-I.net

I agree about the Magnum beind one of the most solid Polaris machines built.

I really like the 425 a lot. If it would either have had the 500 motor, or shaft drive, I might have bought it at the time. Now I am glad I got the Scrambler, but at the time I was really considering it.

The Magnum 425 was/is one of my favorite Polaris models. I really the feel of it when riding, and it's layout. I haven't ridden a Magnum 500 yet, but I can't wait until I do.

I have a polaris Xplorer and love it. i dont know of anyone that owns a Polaris that has had any troubles at all? I am not sure how hard people ride them? My best friends family owns a Polaris dealership, sells Honda and Polaris, and they drive Polaris! as there personal rides. They could drive anyone they want. They told me to go with the Xplorer, vs. a 300 Honda 4X4. I have been happy with mine and so has anyone that i know that has owned one.
