Default 300 xplorer crank seals

Hello all.

I'm new to this board although I've been doing a lot of searches and found a lot of useful information.

My question is on the crank seal for my 1997 xplorer 300. When I pulled the stator from the case the crank seal came out with it. It looked like someone replaced it but didn't install it far enough. So I'm not sure how far to drive the new one in. Do I install it flush with the case?
Also, I haven't pulled the other side apart yet so any info on that would be great.
