Default 2005 Sportsman 500 ECM

New member here.
Been reading the forum for a couple weeks now trying to soak in as much as I can.
New to me '05 SP500 that appears to have an overcharging issue.

i haven't had the battery tested yet, nor have I called a dealer yet to check the VIN for any previous ECM work. Both on my to-do list.

But my question has to do with the black/silver, chinese/non-chinese versions of the ECM.
Based on my readings, black is bad, silver is good, chinese is bad, non-chinese is good.

My bike appears to have a silver ECM, but made in china. Did they replace old black chinese units with new silver chinese units?

I'm also confused about the part number.
The unit in the bike is 4011803, but all the parts lists out there show 4011110.
I'm sure a call to the dealer will help sort a lot of this out, but I'm trying to educate myself as much as possible before talking with them.

Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can provide.

Yes black is bad.. Yes overcharging is bad also..You've got an updated one looks like. The ones I received did say USA,but possible that Polaris had some replacements sourced through China again or this might have been a later produced ecm?? On this I'd call a local dealer with your vin# to see if it does show a replacement record. Does sound squirrely though as the 4011110 ecm on the 2005 500 was replaced by the US made#2203348 module. You may be able to still get one installed free of charge if it hasn't been previously replaced.2004 2006 Polaris Sportsman 450 500 Scrambler Surepower ECM PDM 2203348 | eBay Let us know how this turns out.

Thanks OPT!!

Went by the dealer today and unfortunately the ECM has already been replaced on this bike. Was done back in 2008.

No comment from the dealer regarding the different part numbers and no indication from them they would change it out for free. Went ahead and ordered a new unit from the dealer as their price was same as anywhere else.

Also had the battery load tested and it passed, so at least I can eliminate it from the equation.

Bummer.. Kinda figured it was replaced as all the Chinese original ecms were solid black, but this replacement part number is not one that I've ever encountered. Every site I've checked from Polaris Parts on down still showed the #2203348 to be the replacement number. At least you have a new one coming and the battery is still ok.
