Buying a Kodiak instead

Evenson ; The Magnum 500 has virtually replaced the Sportsman where I live it is not a special order and also there is no comparison between the old Magnums and the Newer ones I have had them both. The new Mags are far superior to the old 425 mags. can,t believe the dealer where you are doesn,t stock them. Our dealer keeps a full Magnum lineup 325-500 at all times because thats what he sells the most of now. Really sounds as if you do have a weak dealership on your hands if they don,t stock a full lineup. I wish you could ride a Mag 500 I think you would be impressed.

You guys seem to count out the Sportsman series compeletly! Although I think the Magnum 500 is a fine machine, and I definitely like it better than the Kodiak, (the Yamaha is a close second) don't count out the Sportsman 500. It beats the any utility quad in every catagory except torque. Some people complain that it's too much maintenance, but I'd rather have piece of mind knowing that when I spend my time pumping grease into it, whatever I just lubed will not have water in it after the next trip. Unfortunately I can't afford a quad right now, but if I had the money, Kodiak, BigBear 4x4, Xplorer 400, (yes, even a 2 stroke) Magnum 500, and Sportsman would all be considerations!! If I had the big bucks it'd definitely have to be between Magnum and Sportsman 500, but I think I'd go with the Sportsman 500 given the choice. Don't count out the Sportsman just because it has more moving parts. It also has more ground clearence and wheel travel than any other ATV!

I should probably rename myself
dreaminofpolaris2. I just spent three
days moose hunting with the use of
a brand new Yamaha Bear Tracker and a
2 yr old Kawasaki Prairie 300 4x4.
I was amazed at how capable the Yamaha
was. I hauled out moose quarters and had
a blast with it.
I have learned two things:
1. I REALLY want a Sportsman 500 because
of two person capability and suspension.
2. We need two quads.
My budget does not allow for the immediate
purchase of two quads and a trailer.
I will continue to ponder the choices.
The SP500 is back at the TOP of the list!

Now do I dare start a thread about
the best trailer option for hauling
two quads?
I saw a side load, low profile trailer
that looked ideal. Is that the ideal
solution? I hate the prospect of driving
two up onto the rails of my F-350.
It was a little intimidating just driving
to bed level.

Do yourself a favor, don't rule out the Kodiak. I bought a '99 Polaris Sport to rippin' with my friends, I love the machine. I then realized I would need a machine for hunting. I rode the Polaris's, Sportsman and Magnums. They seemed too big and cumbersome for where I was going to do my hunting. I always liked the Yamaha utility quads (I had a 99 Big Bear), so I rode the Kodiak because I wanted to stick with an auto tranny. I fell in love with this quad immediately. It was so sleek and easy to manipulate, it was a dream to ride. I feel for my style of trail riding and overall needs, this is the perfect utility, hunting machine for me. It's also a blast to trail ride when you don't feel like ripping your arms out of the sockets like you do on the Sport. I would give the Kodiak a 10
