Default Battery drain

2008 500 HO Sportsman. With key off there is a 12.4 V draw on the battery. The draw has been traced to the two blue wires on the positive side of the solonoid. What are these wires and what may be the problem? Thanks in advance for replies.

Default 12.4V is the battery voltage.

More explanation is required. your battery should hold a charge of around 12.4vdc. current drain is measured in amps/milliamps. To test for current drain, remove the positive terminal from the battery and connect a current meter between/in series with the removed wire and the +battery terminal. hould have only a few milli apms of draw with key off. do not turn the key on while your meter is connectee in series as it could damage your meter, unless you have a meter rated for full current draw of the electrical system.
why do you think you ahave a drain and when did it start?

The two solenoid wires with the connector lead to the ignition switch. At 12.4 volts the battery is 75% charged. There will be a slight draw from the speedo memory, but nothing drastic. Don't over look the basics and charge the battery up fully and have it load tested. May be the battery itself has a weak cell and not able to fully hold a charge. Here's a good article on batteries and how to test.https://www.batterystuff.com/blog/ho...ry-is-bad.html Plus check to see if the battery is receiving 14-14.5 volts at an idle. If it's not this would normally lead to the ecm that doesn't have a good history on holding up.4011568 CONTROL-MODULE,SINGLE,CARB $181.60

The battery will die overnight and is new. Ive disconnected the negative and put the volt meter between the neg term on the battery and the battery cable. With key off it shows 12.4 volt draw. Ive put the meter between the pos terminal and the cable and also shows 12.4 draw. Then I tested just the pos on the solonoid with the cable disconected and shows nada. I tested the pos battery term to the 3 wire hook up from the solonoid and shows 11v draw. Then I cut the red and the 2 blue and tested from the pos on the battery to each seperatly. No draw on the red and full draw on each blue. All with key off. This is a new battery.

Then I'd suspect the ecm.. It controls charging, fan controller, has battery protection circuits(that can fail),auxilliary power controller and all the circuit breakers. These things can go south at any time. Even though it's way past the recall stage they can still fail, some even burn up.

The stator in test mode shows 14+ volts at idle. Would this indicate a good ecm or could it still be pooched? Is there a way to test them?

One section can fail, the other sections can still carry out their functions. A lot of the times charging was the issue along with cutting power completely to the dash. Early models that were recalled(2004-2006) some of these have burnt down to the ground or burnt up wiring harnesses. Some limited tests in the manual on the ecm but might be worth the 5 bucks to see plus you can use it for future repairs and service. Possible that the problem could be somewhere else,(hopefully so)but with my experience with them I wouldn't bet on it.2008 Polaris Sportsman 500 Service Manual PDF Download

Thats something I may have to do. Im hesitant to take a vehicle in for such a non discript repair cause in to many instances a person may as well have "screw me" tattoo'd on your forehead. Thanks for the PDF manual.
