This can be something simple to check by pulling the black wire from the cdi. If it cranks up then the problem could either be in the ignition switch, left control switch or even the black kill circuit wire in the cdi that grounds the spark. If this isn't the problem area then you're probably down to the stator and pick up coil.On something of this nature best to have the manual that has the trouble shooting guides and checks and resistance specs. The upgraded Kokusan ignition is the same as the one used in the 2004 Sportsman 700.2004 Polaris Sportsman 700 Service Manual PDF Download I'd still spray electrical cleaner into the cracks and crevices of the left control switch and work the push button along with the emergency on/off switch. Plus check the two connectors leading to it.These small brass parts can become corroded and cause problems also.

This is driving me nuts. I went through everything could not find anything wrong. Put dry gas in the tank thinking something was frozen. went to show a buddy of mine what was going on. It fired right up. But it was warmer over 40 degrees. Ran great for a couple weeks. Now today we got a snow storm and it is cold went to go plow with it and it is doing the same thing. It should not be the gas lines since i ran the dry gas through it . any ideas?

Might be better to drain the tank and use a good stabilizer instead.Pull the line from the fuel pump to the carb and crank the engine over. Should be a steady stream of fuel if the pump is ok. Plus the problem can also be in the carb itself. If mine I'd install a good Shindy kit to rule out a carb problem.Shindy Carburetor Kit Polaris Sportsman 700 2002-2006 Carb Rebuild | eBay

Question. Like I said it only does this when the temp get's below freezing. Warm it is fine. And it runs for 2 secs after sitting a couple hrs below freezing. After it stops running you have to wait a few hrs before it will run for 2 secs again. I pulled the air cover box and tried spraying starting fluid in the carb with no different effect. Can there be something electrical that goes bad below freezing? I am still going to do as Old Polaris tech said and pull the fuel tank etc etc. But it should at least try to start with the starting fluid wouldn't you think? I should add I rebuilt the carb about 6 months ago.

Did you pull the fuel line from the carb to see if it's pumping ok in cold temps? If it is then fuel may not be the problem, especially since starting fluid doesn't help. Starting fluid is lighter than gas and goes straight into the combustion chamber. Plus have you changed plugs? May be simplest things that people over look also.Plus do you have the battery on a tender? Problem could also come down to a battery itself. Voltage may show good, but drop when cranking one up if a battery is weak or beginning to go out.I'd have it load tested to rule it out as this machine has to have good battery voltage to run unlike the older models.

Battery is brand new. That was the first thing I got when this problem developed. I have it on the charger now to make sure it is at full strength. I did not pull the fuel line yet. I figured it would at least try to start with the starting fluid it just turns over you don't even hear it try to fire. I am going to pull the plugs now. See if the are wet and check the gap.I am snowed in here I can't get out to get new plugs until I get this thing plowing. I might have to put out a call for delivery. I will keep you informed if I get anywhere with this.
