Default 99 sportsman slide spring

I was hoping someone could help me out. I have a 99 sportsman 500. I rebuilt the carb after experiencing a float bowl leak, atv ran good just leaked. Now it runs rough on acceleration. Found that if i leave the slide spring out it runs perfect with a great spark plug color. Not lean or rich.have the adjustable needle set to top notch.any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Dangerous to run that way. Retrace your steps from the slide needle assembly up and also look at the jet block assembly(9) for wear/rough spots or any binding or wear on the slide itself.Plus check the slide diaphragm for any holes or worn spots. Needs the spring to bring the slide back down properly. Plus check that the vacuum hose and other hoses from the fuel valve to the pump are hooked up properly and has good flow when you crank the engine over.

That's why I said to recheck your work.. Now try it with the spring once you have it right.

I feel kinda goofy i had #1 plastic washer in first not on top of needle. It all makes sense now that i switched it around. Every time i would tilt carb the needle would fall thru and i wondered why, well now i know. Had to reset adjustable needle to middle setting. I cant thank you enough, i have about 30 hours of taking this apart and reasembling.Again thank you for saving my sanity!!!!

Don't feel too bad.. Think I've had 5 or 6 people do the same thing on the forum plus I don't know how many that came into the shop over the years for this same thing wondering why it wouldn't run right..
