Default Rim painting

Any of ya every repaint rims with dupli color car paint?

I bought some black paint and primer, sanded the rims down REAL good (1.5hr per rim with a wire wheel) and just layed the primer down and put a few coats of the black dupli color on, honestly the rims look amazing if they didnt have dents in the lip I'd think they were brand new, my concern is durability though, I dont want to half to repaint these things every year so is this paint durable with 5 coats on? or should I use a clear coat or any other suggestions? Thanks!

I have had good luck with the duplicolor paint. It's what I use on my rims and old steel racks on my old antique two strokes, lol. I am an autobody Technician and could easily tell you more expensive ways to paint then but they will hold up nicely with the duplicolor paint. Biggest thing with durability is to make sure you get the surface clean and prepared before you paint it.

Thanks for the comment mike!

You don't bother with the clear coat on them?

Clearcoating protects the paint from uv rays allowing the color to fade. It will add to the durability, but most enamel based paints are far more durable than they were years ago. If you want that peace of mind that the paint will not fade over many years or your machine sits outside a lot, then the extra expense of the clear coat is worth it.
