If you installed a non HO carb(BST34) then you need this kit.NEW Polaris Sportsman 500 1999-2000 Carburetor Carb Rebuild Kit Repair US | eBay The 2003 HO has the BST40 carb. Both carbs had the same stock jetting. 152.5 main jet,40 pilot jet.Plus the smaller intake manifold would have to be used if you change carbs. Here's the non Ho and Ho carb breakdowns. No power could be carb related or again clutch/belt related.

Ok so I will just use my carb I have then and order the rebuild kit today. Any suggestions to chexk to diagnose the coughing/backfiring through carb? Basically when I give it a lot of throttle it coughs and small pops inside airbox, and when I hold it wide open it doesn't rev out if you can understand what I'm saying lol

Try the carb kit first along with checking valve clearance if you haven't done so already. If that doesn't completely solve the problem, then I'd head for the belt and clutches.

Ok sounds good. I guess it will have to wait until carb kit comes, I just ordered it. Drives me nuts not being able to do anything while waiting for parts. Would be nice if they were sold local.

Also this is the air/fuel screw that the head was broken on, I had to use an easy out to remove it. I hope this comes in that shindy kit, it doesn't show it in the picture but they usually use a generic picture I think.

The fuel mixture screw, spring, washer and o-ring come in the kits. If you weren't able to count the turns on the fuel screw, set the new one at 2-2.5 turns out from a lightly seated position. As far as the high $ idle adjuster, can't help much on that as the cheapest I've found is 74 bucks. Like I mentioned I don't know if the old BST34 adjuster could be made to work or not.Did notice this used one that appears in good shape. Still 50 bucks.2004 01-13 Polaris Sportsman 500 OEM Carburetor Idle Adusting Adjuster Cable | eBay
