On my Xplorer 400 exhaust pipe, there is a plug that can be taken out. I've been told that taking the plug out will make the machine run better. Is this true? Anyone ever tried it?

It's a drain plug. It will allow more exhaust out, noticable power gain - no. Get an aftermarket pipe or silencer for power gains.
