help. quit starting
#1
my 2003 sportsman ran great one day, wouldn't start the next day. acted like the starter wasn't engaging, but i tore the case off and it seems to be kicking the bendix out correctly. the bendix then stretches out to the flywheel, but wont turn it. when i took the cover off, these 4 magnets and a broken piece of plastic sat in the bottom. can anyone please help? is this a stator problem?

Now's the best time to change the Ducati ignition to the Kokusan kit that includes the stator, flywheel, cdi, regulator and coil.#2202602. Check around on price.Cheapest I've found is a little over $500.

Hardest part is getting the flywheel off. The installation is pretty straight forward with the exception of the red/white power wire that is shown in the video above that a lot of people(including myself on my first one) had to dig around to find. Again look at the video as it is the best one I've found. The instructions are a little vague on this wire. Back to the flywheel. Use a good harmonic balancer puller to remove it.They are on tighter than a lot of flywheels. Look starting at the 3:38 mark on this video.

Well if you smoke you can use the Ducati flywheel for an ash tray.Or a good paper weight..Don't be suckered into used Ducati ignition parts sold on ebay. Get the updated Kokusan kit and be done with it.
