That link lets you get it straight from the horse's mouth as the old saying goes. I believe it when WARN says it. More layers of cable on the drum acts like a larger gear. It should be a hair faster with more layers, but will have less power.

I'm with you. Makes sense to me
How much more power? That's debatable.

Also, please don't make me do the math. That would mean that my high school teachers won, and I really DID need to know those things for life.

I've tried to help my grand daughter on the "new"math they teach down here. I would definitely fail her fourth grade math class..

Superwinch Terra, Warn is grossly over priced due to their expensive advert campaign.

I have had to help all my grandchildren with their "new math"....totally insane!
No wonder the kids have issues with it, the explanations are totally a joke and you have to go thru numerous operations to get an answer. I have taught my grandkids the same way I learned and they understand it without a problem....however the school will not give them credit unless they do it the confusing way. I went to the school on many occasions to stick up for the grandkids but was ask not to come back as they had no answers for me.. They gave me all the bull about being a teacher and knowing what is best etc. Then I lay it on them ...I have been a teacher in "college level" for 24 yrs so that means I know it better than they do!!
Just love to see the look on there face when I tell them that....of course they ask me to leave and not come back as they have no answer...

When I did algebra problems in my head and wrote down the answers my teacher handed my paper back with, "show your work" written on it. So I wrote it all down step by step and turned it back in. The writing part took longer than actually figuring out the correct answer. I don't know what kind of new math they're learning now but I'm glad I don't have to deal with it.

After serving 26 years on active duty in the Army, I retired and went to work in higher education. Now, I'm the president of a small college and see the result of "new math" every day with our students. The reality is that, for the majority of people the root skill learned in math isn't the math itself - it's the critical thinking and problem solving we all need to be able to do no matter what you do in life. I laugh when I see posts like "Well, another day passed and I didn't use Algebra" and then read about how those same people determine what winch provides the best value for the price.

When the school system creates busy work and uses the critical thinking as an excuse for it, does not make sense. And I have first hand experience with students that make use of this busy work, they just as soon forget it! People want quick and positive answers and if they don't get them they fail to go any further and loose interest. When they learn a simple and effective method to solve a problem they are interested. In my granddaughters math, the were to add together two three digit problems, such as 314 plus 598. Rather than adding them together in a column as I was taught they had to go thru a long lengthy process of adding the ones column then the tens column and finally the hundreds column, each one being done separately. Then those had to be arranged and then added together, 13 steps in all to get an answer, a simple answer that should take only a minute if that....and we wonder why they are loosing interest!!
