chain adjustment

I have about 100 miles on my '01 scram 2x4 and want to adjust the chain...what the heck do u need to do...i tried loosening the u bolts holding the the rear assembly in place ....what else did i miss?...hurry i need to do this soon...riding this weekend

You have to losen the two bigger bolts on the housing AND the caliper bolts(the bolts holding the caliper on, located under the axle to the right of the disk). You can see one of the caliper bolts, the other is under a little bit more. I use a huge pair of channel lock's to rotate the axle housing. You have to rotate foreward to tighten, backwards to losen I think. Just make sure you make all the bolts nice and tight when you're done.It's really really easy once you get the hang of it!

There is also a hole between the axle and the rear sprocket. You can insert a phillips head screwdriver into it, rotate the wheels until it lines up with another hole on the axle carrier, the screwdriver will go into that hole as well, and you can rotate the rear wheels until you get the desired tension, then retighten the bolts.

check the adjustment after you are done by pulling down on the suspension with a ratchet tie down to make sure the chain is not to tight.
