Default Sportsman XP 1000 wins Editors' Choice Award

The 2017 Sportsman XP 1000 won an Editors' Choice Award from On Target Magazine. The curved A-arms are a nice addition. An aftermarket set for the 2016 model from High Lifter would set you back about 580 bucks.

They are a sweet atv - I’d love one... But the near $15,000 plux taxes and such is a hard pill to swallow. I can get a Jeep TJ for that.

I thought you made a mistake on the price, then remembered you're in Canada. The MSRP on a Sportsman XP 1000 in the U.S. starts at $11,999.

I sat on a new 850, it was a base model. Much better price, and power id be happy with.

I think most people would be happy with the power of an 850. One of my friends wanted something with more power than his Grizzly 660, and since Yamaha didn't make anything like our other friend's Sportsman 850, he switched to Polaris. But he had to one up the other guy and get an XP 1000 instead of an 850. All of the utility ATVs in our group are Polaris or Yamaha, even if someone only shows up once every couple of years. I'm still okay with not having enough power to do wheelies. A 500-600 is all I want, and all I can afford.

The 1000's are so expensive for sure. I think something around 650-750cc is plenty. My last 3 atvs have been in that class. I'm guessing Yamaha will put the new 850 twin in the Grizzly next year. I kinda hope they still keep making the 700 as well. I wish Polaris had kept making the Sportsman 800, I thought that was a powerful atv that was also a pretty good value. The 570 is a great engine(I wish they also had made a Scrambler 570) but the 800 just simply has more power.

There's no replacement for displacement, and each cylinder on a 1000 is as big as my 500, which was the biggest engine around when it first came out.

A 570SP or an Outlander 450DPS would be a fine replacement for my 400HO, but not replacing it yet.

I think it depends a lot on where you ride. Certain conditions like high altitude, sand, thick mud, deep snow etc eat power. 1000cc will certainly be plenty for everyone, until Polaris or Can-Am tries a turbo on an atv. Probably will be harder than on a utv, space is more of premium. Or maybe go with the X3 900cc triple with no turbo, still quite a potent engine.

From the article.."So why does one need a 90-horespower ATV? If you have to ask then you probably don’t need one" At my age nope, wouldn't need it.My son on the other hand would probably say 90 hp isn't enough.. Until he got hurt...
