On the 2016 Polaris sportsmans is there anyway to adjust the rear alignment? If so how do you do it. Thanks

 

Not really. Tire alignment is from the rears to the front. A good straight edge held against the rear tire,then you can adjust the toe out on the front tires while someone is holding the bars straight. Or as this guy did and rigged up a one man setup.

Yep. .that way works excellent. ..cause now the fronts are aligned to the rear.. Be sure to leave a slight toe in as the force of moving forward will cause the front tires to spread ever so slightly.

 

I thought it was supposed to toe out, not in.

 

Every ATV is different. Doesn't hurt to play with the alignment of yours. Caster also can have a great effect. My Arctic Cat Diesel was aligned perfectly, about 3/16" toe in, but steered like a tank. Shimmed the upper A-Arms forward 1/10", now it steers like a dream.

 

Each machine can be a little different as far as toe in or out that works best,some of this depends on the suspension,wear,tires,etc. All Polaris models even up to the newer 570s do say 1/8"-1/4" toe out which isn't very much to begin with.

 

From my years of experience I have found that for strictly off road it makes little difference, toe out might even help steering in soft ground, but move into hardpack or on pavement then toe in has an advantage due to front wheels being spread out due to physics of moving forward. I have also experimented on various machines and found that toe in normally favors the steering ability to most drivers. I have never found toe out to be favorable on the machines I have set up. Now with that said, I have never set up a Polaris machine, hard to believe a brand name would make the difference, but that could very well be.

 

The suspension geometry is what determines toe settings and how much. Toe in will make for quicker steering off road but can be very dangerously twitchy on the road. Most all Polaris 4x4 ATV's are best from 0 to about 1/4" OUT. Honda SRA machines like the 500 Foreman require much more at around 1/2"-3/4" OUT or they are dangerous on the highway. I've set up several new Foremans for customers that came from the factory set at around 1 1/2" toe out.

 

My machine came with toe out as well but handed poorly both off and on road. I reset it to slight toe in an it now tracks straight as an arrow on road and much easier to steer. What I am saying is try both ays and see what your machine and driving style likes.
