CAM Issues
#1
I have been told that I need a new camshaft for my 2001 Ranger 6 x 6. It started running shitty, bogging down, backfiring etc. I tuned it up , new plug, filters, gas, fuel filter, then new carb. Mostly this thing is used for farm work. Lots of low speed and idling. I do run Mobil One in it. I was told that the cause of the camshaft going is that they don't get much oil at low speed or idling. Is this true? If it is true is there any way to rig an auxiliary pump and line to dump more oil on the camshaft at low speeds and idling? I have a 1930 Plymouth that also had problems with lubrication and one old boy showed me his auxiliary setup that he designed and built for his 31 Plymouth. It solved the problem. So I am wondering if the same could be done for this engine.

First off look at the exhaust can lobe to see if it's ground down like the one in the right picture. If it is replace it and the exhaust rocker arm. Bad heat treatment on several year models of cams was the main reason not oil supply.
