But rebuild it with a good quality kit. Plenty of rebuild kits out there that aren't oem quality, but this one is.https://www.ebay.com/itm/Polaris-Spo...9Wxi62&vxp=mtr Don't just pull a carb and try to clean one. You'd probably have to go back in and do it right anyway.

engine needs choking
First off, Thank You for replying to my post for help. Second, I goofed and typed 2001, which is wrong, it is a 1999 500 Sportsman! Information on the ATV follows: Purchased new in 2001 after a dealer had some ATV's setting and tied up thru problems?? 0 miles on when purchased, at present has 287 miles on it, and would like to give to my son, but I would like to give him a good running machine. Setting in my garage, probably 7 years? Tank was nearly empty and I messed up by putting about a 1/2 gal in it, charging battery and attemped to start. After pulling choke all the way it fired right up, and idle OK until choke is taken off. Have no experience working on ATV, just JD tractor's and old pickups at home. I would appreciate all the info on how to take Carb off and will attempt to install new kit in Carb as suggested. Have figured out and removed side panels, seat, but lookin at the Carb, it looks complicated?? Thanks again.
