I just bought a '01 Sportsman 400 the other day and when I got it home I noticed it was making a noise when I gave it a short "blip" of the throttle. It makes a kind of "ker-klunk" noise as if something is rolling around a gear or something. I don't think it's the rear end. If anybody knows what this is or has this problem too any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

I just got a new Sportsman 400 and when mine idles it makes some trans noise. I think it is just the clutch spinning til it engages. When I hit the throttle it stops doing that.

Mine ran fantastic. I traded in my new 2001 TrailBoss. I must say I should have bought the Sportsman 400 to start with. Even the extra weight doesn't seem to bother me and was not really noticeable. The power is great and I can't really see me ever needing any more. I even when through some deep mud that and Explorer and Magnum 500 go stuck it. The independant rear suspension and grough clearance really help and the 4wd really bites in hard. I can't wait til next weekend to ride again. Polaris makes a great machine for the money when you start comparing features.
