Default 03 Polaris Coolant

so I was reading about everyone losing coolant and many replies say add water this and that. Why would you not use a non silicate antifreeze coolant? Is any one actually using water as coolant? If not what type coolant are you using? Polaris 700 Sportsman

I'm using the old style Prestone or generic equivalent 50/50 mix in my ATV. I've never used anything else in any of them.

Default Coolant

the dealer says to use non-silicate coolants or it will mess up the water pump. But I’m quite sure water is not the answer. Thank you kindly for the response

Water is definitely not right for it. What does your owner's manual say? Mine says to use Polaris Premium 60/40 or a 50/50 mixture of high quality aluminum compatible anti-freeze/coolant and distilled water. If the old greenish color coolants weren't compatible with aluminum, I think we would have heard about it by now. You can't use it in newer cars and trucks with higher revving and hotter running engines, but I don't know how that applies to old ATVs. Polaris also recommends that you drain and refill your cooling system every 2 years. I'm 8 years overdue on mine. If it overheats this summer I'll change it.
