My brother has a `94 400 L (close to the same thing) and loves it. The only problems he has had are a ripped CV boot, a flat tire and messing around with the 3 chains (hats off to the new design). He only has around 1200 miles on it.

The 400 2 stroker with the chain drive is incredible and very snappy. The front tires lift with little effort and the backend can really slide. Very fun to ride and still good for hunting with low range. Best of all the 2 stroke starts great and warms up fast in the cold Minnesota winters. 9" of rear travel aint to bad either.

After a long blown out, drug out consideration of all the ATV's out there, I've decide to get one myself. I'm planning on buying a left over (new) `99 for $4900. `00 are $5400 with $250 accesory money. Also add 6.5% for the good ol Minnesota government. As far as I know there were no changes between the 2 years. Does this sound like a good price?

One concern I have is a couple tech tips posted on ATV connection, take a look at
" 3/21/98 Tech tim #3-1 Front Hub Bearing Damage" and "11/21/97 Tech Tip #3 Polaris Starter Care". Any one have any problems with either of these?

My brother in law lives in Roseau and has family menbers and many friends that work for Polaris. The employees get a good deal on the machines and are able to ride for around a year and then still come out even or maybe make a little money when they sell them. We get up there a few times a year, nice place to ride, hunt and snowmobile. The Cat factory is only about 45-60 miles away in Theif River.

I'll go now, sorry for running on.

Rode along side a '00 Xplorer yesterday in some sand. It was really eating up the whoops nicely, and it was flying along pretty fast as well. The biggest surprise was that it was quieter than my Scrambler or the Sportsmans I was riding with.

xepathfinder, or any one else with a 00 250 explorer...Did you guys notice the difference of the rear sprocket on the 250 exp. compared to any other chain drive polaris?? It is huge. Look at the rear sprocket on a 400 Exp or even a 250 trail blazer the 250 Exp sprocket is alot bigger than any of the other ones. Does anybody know why that is?? I wonder if you could get better performance from it if you put the smaller sprocket on it???

Actually I have not noticed that? but will have to take a look. How would a smaller one improve performance?
