Default Choke cable differences per year sportsman 500

Does anyone know the difference in the choke cable threaded part that goes in the carb. I have a 2001 sportsman 500 I got in a a deal with another one. The carb that came on it was in pieces. I bought a mikuni carb off of EBAY that was for this year supposedly. The choke cable will not thread in, The 2001 choke cable is about 1 size to small, it just pushes in. The cable threads into the factory carb. The threads look okay in the replacement carb. I may try to swap the guts out of the replacement carb but the pilot is a little mangled. Someone messed up the slot in it. Another cable may be an option if I new which year this carb was for. Any suggestions.
