Me and two riding buddies are heading up to Silver Lake on May 11 and 12 to meet Xplr and Zorro and anyone else that shows up from the forum. I have a few questions:

1. Where is the best lodging at? We want to stay at a hotel that is reasonable close, but not very expensive. Anyone have any recommendations?

2. When does everyone plan to get there? We will probably be there about mid day on Friday. We will be driving my dark blue Dodge Dakota Quad Cab with a trailboss, Scrambler, and a three wheeler on a trailer.

3. We bought flags at the local dealer. The dealer said they are legal at Silver Lake. They measure about 10 1/2 feet at when mounted on the atv. Is there any other regulations that we should know about. All our machines are registered in Ohio, so will we only need the Michigan riding sticker ($16?) and the park pass ($5?).

Thanks for any information that you can provide. Looking forward to this trip.

The Comfort Inn(right around Mears,MI), is where we usually stay(pool and hottub). You will need to get your stickers, which you can at the gate.

In the evening we usually head up north to ludington for dinner(1/2 hour away or so)

Also, be sure to have your helmet and eye protection.

Be concerned about your flags. I just broke the flag mount off my Scrambler, and had to have a new one welded on(appletree down the street can do it). You can't bring the machine out of the park, unless it's on a trailer or towed behind a truck with a rider and helmet on it.

Be sure to have your brakes and chain in good condition. The sand is very abusive. You should also bring extra fuel and consider bringing some lunch. We usually put the quads up in the trailer and drop it, going out for lunch and coming back. Do consider bringing water/soda for return breaks.

Hopefully the normal toilets will be open by then. The outhouse style really gives new insight to our ancestors.

Thanks for the info. Do you have a phone number for the Comfort Inn? If not, I can look it up on Yahoo. We plan on bringing lunch and staying the entire day.

I will post when we get back about how the trailboss did. I know it will be seriously underpowered, but I cannot get the wife talked into a new sport quad, yet . Where did you stay while you were up there? I printed off the Yahoo list of hotels. I plan on calling the Comfort Inn as mentioned above, but would like to here other suggestions. We are not looking for anything fancy, just beds and a shower.

Try the Hart motel in the town of Hart 15 min. from the dunes. Your best bet is Ludington though, a half hour drive but a big selection of hotel/motels and food. In Hart they roll up the sidewalks at 8pm.

Wish I could make it but... H/M is this weekend for me. Enjoy !!!
