i am going to be buying a 400 scrambler very soon. hopefully real soon but anyhow, i went pricing, i found a dealer that still has plenty of '99's left. i was quoted $4925, and this was without even talking to the salesman. i figure if i go with cash, i may be able to get down to around $4700 which would be nice. well, the price isn't the question at hand here. the only difference that i see in the new model is that the rear suspension went from 8.8" of travel to 10.2". also i see that the dry weight is listed as about 517lbs for the 99' and 542lbs for the '00. where the he$$ is the weight diffence coming from? and this is straight of the polaris website. all in all, i like the '99 color alot better. the all red just doesn't do it for me. personally i think if they at least had a different seat cover (like the 500 looks a little better with the black) it would look better. and its a shame that they don't put polished aluminum rims on. why have the added feature of aluminum rims, but have a dull grey color? polished aluminum rims, the red plastic, if that is what they went with, and the black or maybe a yellow seat, and the scrambler would look hot. oh well, i guess plastic is not very expensive from what i hear, about 180.00 for the whole set. but the point is that i don't want to spend $5000 and then go buy new plastic when the plastic i have is brand new. i do like the '99, its sharp looking. i think what i came here for is to ask if anyone knows of any other differences between '99 and '00. and does the rear suspension change make that much of a difference??

The 2000 have tapered bearings in the rear axle carrier which are suppose to be an improvement over the 99's. I still bought a 99 and saved the money. I don't think the extra travel and bearings are worth it. You will eventually have to replace the bearings anyway and you can go with the new ones then.

Big Devil,

I wouldn't worry too much about the plastic. You can buy replacement plastic from Hot Seat. It is quite reasonable. If you want to customize some of the look, it might be a good step.

Better yet buy the plastic from your dealer as that is what Hot Seat is selling you. OEM plastic. A good dealer will usually give you a 10 percent discount and if he is good you want send money his way when you can. You will have to pay tax but that will be less than the shipping.
