Has there been a current shootout of kids quads published anywhere? I am considering the Scrambler90 but want to know what else is out there. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, I think it's in the April 2001 "Dirt Wheels" magazine. You may have missed it, I think the May issue is out now.

Do you have questions? I have my copy here somewhere.

I think you're talking about the Trailblazer-250ex-Lakota shootout. I'm looking at the 50-90cc market. Thanks anyway

No, I think it's more models than that. If you have a minute, I can go look for you.

I stand corrected. It's a 'buyer's guide" and it's in the April 2001 edition of "4-Wheel ATV Action" magazine.

I don't recall a recent shoot out on the minis but the Suzuki LT 80 was usually the winner. I just got my 5 year old son an lt 80 about a month ago, so far I have been impressed. I have seen the Polaris but don't know much about them. I don't care much for the huge throttle lever on them though. There is a test on the Polaris 50 and 90 in one of the mags but I don't remember which one. I can look tonight. How old is the rider? I've got some hot tips on how to make the lt 80 handle great and get better stability (cheaply) for the younger riders.

Actually, they don't make any recommendations, it's strickly a buyer's guide.

They just list a bunch of models and their specs.

I'd be happy to fax you a copy?

I have looked at the Quadsport 80. Are they the same machine? Does it have enough power to get up a decent size hill? What kind of mods have you done?

I didn't look over the Polaris real well, but I'm fairly sure they are not the same machine. They do have plenty of power for decent hillclimbs even when the restrictors are in and it is easily adjustable. I took out the exaust restrictor and drilled it out until it ran the speed I wanted it to, this lets the motor wind up a little but still keeps the speed low. When we got it it was a bit tippy so I ordered a set of 16 x 6.5 x 8 snow hogs (look like Holeshots and made by the same company). and mounted the wheels backwards, this gives a lower stance and about 1 1/2" wider. You will have to redrill the front wheels and put two valve stems in otherwise it will hit the brake. This mod made a world of difference, this thing handles like a slot car. Steering is also much easier. The tires were $ 94.00 to my door, best money I ever spent ( much safer). My boy can reach the pegs alright but when I get time I am going to mount an old set of footpegs on top of the original ones. If you choose to get the tires wait till you get them mounted to fool with the restrictor otherwise you will have to do it twice If you are wondering I paid $1,899 out the door for a 2001 model (great deal).
