WHO HAS TRIED WHAT PIPE ON A POLARIS 400 SPORT OR SACAMBLER ?
HoW WAS THE FIT OF THE PIPE ? DID IT HIT THE RECOIL STARTER OR SHIFTER? I TRIED A fMF AND IT HIT IN THOSE 2 PLACES.
HOW WAS PERFORMANCE?

I've run an RCR and HPD as well. The HPD unit fit slightly better, however there was not a noticable difference in performance. However I did kep the RCR silencer because of the great sound! I've seen an FTR pipe and it looked good. I'm actually looking to sell my HPD nickel trail and move up to the FTR unit (mostly because it rev's higher). I've also got a AAEN roller clutch to go with it if you're interested $400 (including shipping)for the pipe/silencer and roller clutch. Over $550 new for everything and my parts are clean! For another $100 I'll add an AAEN steering damper ($150 new).

Stay COMPLETELY away from Dynoport. This guy is a CROOK and could care less about making his customers happy. He is nothing more than a ''parts pusher'' and full of deceiving statements about his pipes.Go to ''DYNOPORT ALERT'' topic in this Polaris forum,it'll tell the WHOLE story.I'd stay with RcR.Rick is honest and wont mis-lead you on his parts,

Quadfather and I have followed parallel paths wshen it comes to modifying our 400's. I had a RCR mid range pipe, and then bought a HPD trail pipe. The HPD got Jet-Hot coated about 2 months ago and looks great. The HPD is routed like the stock pipe and has a rubber bumper and spring arrangement to keep it against the upper frame rail. This keeps the pipe from rattling on the recoil housing ( does this should answer your question for Xplor ? ). The HPD will also accept the stock Scrambler silencer, the RCR silencer, and the FMF Turbine Core II, I tried each of them.
Also, I got a 2001 HPD Catalog yesterday, and there's a new pipe being offered. This "Race Mod Pipe" looks similar to the FTZ pipe where the expansion chamber is mounted in front of the engine, rather than beside your right knee. This pipe is tuned for higher RPM than the trail pipe is, about 6800 rpm vs. about 7,500 rpm for the race mod.
I may haved a Jet-Hot coated pipe for sale before too long...

I'd be careful buying anything from FTR. They flat-out LIED twice to my brother about the delivery date of a swingarm he ordered. When he did get the swingarm 2 months later, it broke on the first ride. It took them another 2 months to remove the charge from his credit card.

Nemo, DO NOT buy the "new" Hpd unit. A friend of mine has one, here's the poop...
It's performance is great, but it looks like a big turd and had to be heated and re-bent to fit right. The pic in the catalog looks nothing like it. The pipe is hydro-formed like the RCR pipes, but with more bends and a bigger expansion chamber the weld are even more noticable. Seriously, it is butt-*** ugly!!
This same friend replaced it with an FTR pipe. True while they need to improve on they're shipping practices, the pipe rocked! It look's excellent, fit well, and performed great. I'm actualy looking to sell my HPD nickel trail to try the FTR unit.
My suggestion is to stay with the HPD trail, it's probably the best all around pipe out for the 400 right now. The FTR pipe is really designed for machines with more HP, as is the new HPD pipe. GAWD I can't stress how ugly that thing is!!

I went with the HPD MSA spark arrestor silencer. I ride in some National forests where a spark arrestor is a must. It has a great low rumble to it. It is a little pricey, but what's a few bucks when it comes to mods. It looks great as well. Email me if you want me to send you a picture of it on my bike.
