Default 1999 sportsman 335 Oil drain pan threads stripped

I have a 335 sportsman with the oil pan threads that are stripped. Can anyone offer suggestions on how to fix this. The oil pan in aluminum and the plug is metal. Thanks.

There are companies that make oversize taps and drain plugs. Do some searching, simply retap the hole and add the oversize plug. In some severe cases you might need to move up to the next larger plug size. I have went from sae to metric and metric to sae in order to get a slightly larger size to rethread an existing hole. I have also used button head screws with nylon washers to act as drain plugs when all else fails.

OK I will look around to see what the best option is. To bad the drain is recessed on the on the ATV which makes it harder to get a oversized plug to fit. Someone suggested using a Helicoil insert as a possible solution. Could this work.

What is the size of the oil drain plug for a 1999 Sportsman 335?

Helicoil would work but might drip a little.

That’s what I have read. What is the size of the drain plug so I can match the right helicoil kit for it. The plug says M12 which suggests a metric bolt.

M12. Would be a 12mm dia metric bolt. Most any hdwe store has a bolt gage that will give the pitch of the thread.
