hey grizzjeep,
i heard the same thing that indydave said. my friend ordered a fender kit for his '00 sp500 and questioned why it didn't have the holes either. a phone call to polaris confirmed that they were not necessary and the water intrusion issue.
i've had my h.o since last year, plowed heavy snow for 76 miles all winter, and this thing is bullet proof!
my wife enjoys it to, so a month ago i bought her one to.
wouldn't trade them for anything!................(well maybe a sp700)
get out there and do some GREAT RIDING!

Driven clutch is bad. Dealer will replace under warranty. Mine did the exact same thing on my first ride.
You are not the first HO owner with these clutch problems. It took 3 drive clutches and one belt before my dealer fixed the clunking sound (700 dollars covered under warranty).
Good luck!

don't listen to THELAW, 1900 miles on my 200 SP 500 and it runs as good as it did the day I took it out of the showroom, never been back eexcept the free 500 mile service the my Dealer gives to his customers. Sportsmans are bullet proof for sure no machine should be able to last the way I drive them, others have not actually my Polaris is the only new ATV I have owned that made it a year with no repairs, I have used my Sportsman the hardest of them all. They do not come with holes in them, they earliers ones did, my 2000 does not have them.

Bought my HO in march,it did the same thing. It would hesitate then grab. I didn't know if it was in the clutch or had something to do with the EBS. Any way it's got over a hundred miles on it now and don't notice it doing it anymore.Hope it's just abreak in thing & not clutch problems like I've been reading on here.ALL I know is that it is one fine running machine, you can'tbeat it's ride,Lovin mine!

Went riding recently, one other guy in the group at a 2000 500sp, which is what I have, mine had an earlier manufacture date than his. Mine has the holes on the left side of the tank, his didnt. If was for the waterproofing of the belt housing, during the ride mine slipped when it got wet, his didnt.

Grizzjeeper,
I imagine that the clunk or snap to which you are referring only manifests itself after shifting from reverse to forward, right?
I was told that this was caused by the realignment of the one way ebs clutch in the secondary drive taking up slack. Perhaps somebody else has a better explaination.
