Default 98 Sportsman idles great cutting out at full throttle

I have seen pages of posts on this problem but think mine is strange. If I cover the inlet tube to air box revs up and runs good but if not cuts out and backfires. Is this a fuel issue???

Check the intake adapter between the carb and engine. You will probably find it torn.

I checked intake boot. No tears! Still can’t get it to open up unless I restrict the air! What am I missing????

Sounds like you need to do a good carb clean and rebuild. Don't buy a cheap Chinese carb off ebay or you may end up with worse problems.

Ordered a carb off eBay figured I’d try it! Put it on and this thing runs like a top!

it sounds like the common problem with these particular at a, & that is the cam going flat and exhaust rocker worn.
