Flipped 07 Sportsman 500 x2 gear damage?
#1
So I came down a hill wrong and fell off this ATV. Would have been fine had the quad not also landed on top of me upside down 😗
I got out from underneath and the quad sputtered to a stop with oil leaking out from the top (smelled like gas)
Now the quad makes a funny whine very similar to the sound the reverse gear makes on old cars. It makes the same sound in LOW with the exception that it also begins to creep forward on its own.
Its doesn't start making this noise or creep forward until I hit the gas a bit and let go. Once turned off for some time it will be fine again until I turn it back on and push the gas.
Any comments as to what this could be? I did top off the oil as it was low on the dip but no real improvement

If it was just creeping forward I'd say one of the pulleys in the CVT might be damage. If it's a whining sound, again, I'd look at the CVT for damage. If it's a gravely sound it could be transmission, or maybe one of the axles. I came off a drop off of about 2.5 ft. with a 2006 X2 not fast enough to jump it and not slow enough to crawl down. I hit a rock right under the rear Spicer gear box. Made more of the gravely, clunking sound. In that case I got a used unit on eBay and had it replaced. Got rid of the noise.
