Default 2001 Xplorer 400 Piston Slap

Just picked up two older ATVs at an estate sale. Started working on the 2001 Polaris Xplorer 400 4x4 because I was going to sell it but after doing some research they seem like pretty cool machines and I wouldn't mind having an extra machine for the kids to ride. This i my first 2 stroke ATV but not my first two stroke I have owned / worked on. After getting the carb cleaned and the fluids changed I got her fired up and pretty loud have piston slap. I don;t know much about this motor except what I have learned about it while getting it running.

I am just getting ready to order up a top end kit but with no idea what the cylinder looks like I fell like I should plan on getting it bored to the next size piston so it really is a fresh top end. With no real experience with these units I wanted to check in with you folkd to get a few questions answered.

1. Are these cylinders Nikasil like my old two stroke dirt bikes or do they have iron sleeves I can send out to the machine shop to get bored out?
What top end piston, rings and gasket kit should I be looking for?
2. Seen a lot of info on having them ported while the cylinder is off really adds power. Any insight on this?

Thanks and looking forward to learning more.

Joe

P.S. High fives to anyone who will direct me to where I set up my signature. thanks!
